Take Care of That Little Inferno!

Take care of your little vessel of fire and follow these tips for a better-burning candle:

  • Always trim wick to 1/8″-1/4″ before lighting. If you leave the wick too long, it either gets too confident and showy with its flame, or it gets sad and curls over… it might even just go out. Just a little trim encourages the wick to keep the situation under control.
  • The Mad Chandler’s 7.4oz candles need 3 hours to tell their story, each time they are burned. If you stop them before their performance is complete, they will remember and lose their enthusiasm for future performances. And of course, longer than three hours and they get a little heated. Keep your candles happy and burn three hours at a time, every time.
  • Store in a dark, dry, and cool place when not in use- not to gossip, but the sun and the candles don’t really get on well.
  • Remove any carbon blooms that fall into the wax.
  • Keep away from drafts – Direct air currents cause the flames to dance, and because their dancing causes smoke and soot, and can cause the candle to burn faster, the chandler has asked the flames to refrain from dancing. Please support the chandler in this effort. It’s for the best.
  • Use in a well-ventilated space. Good airflow (not a direct draft) will encourage the scent to introduce itself to the room, and of course, provide fresh air which has proven pretty good for anything that breathes.
  • Should your candle perform too well, and get too sexy for its vessel, do not use water to extinguish it. This can cause a fireball and that’s not what the chandler meant by embracing the unexpected.
